HELPING HANDS:Each month we will be asking for specific donations to be handed out during the Helping Hands sessions. For the month of Octoberwe are asking for donations of Shampoo and Conditioner. All donations can be dropped off at United during normal office hours, or contact Wendy Seyler (570) 502-0683. As always, your kindness is greatly appreciated.

NITTANY VALLEY FELLOWSHIPwill meet on Mon., Oct. 7thbeginning at 7 PM at Trinity Reformed, Hublersburg.

FALL HYMN SING:Nittany Valley Fellowship will hold a Fall Hymn Sing on Sun., Oct. 13thbeginning at 7 PM at Nittany Valley Alliance Church.

JOINT COUNCILwill be held on Thurs., Oct. 24thbeginning at 7 PM at St. Paul’s, Loganton.

ONE-GALLON CHALLENGE:The Clinton County Ministerium is sponsoring their annual fund drive to help our brothers and sisters who struggle to heat their homes each winter. Everyone is asked to donate the cost of one gallon of fuel ($4.00). The initial gathering of monetary gifts will take place at the community Thanksgiving service, but please consider additional gifts throughout the winter.

CHRISTMAS-AT-SEA:Seafarers International House (SIH) is the Lutheran response to the urgent needs of vulnerable seafarers and immigrants. SIH offers hospitality, social assistance, and advocacy to a multi-national and multi-faith community in maritime ports on the Eastern Seaboard and in a 84-room Guesthouse in NYC serving a total of 29,000 people including over 17,000 seafarers visited and almost 6,000 lodging nights for seafarers, asylees, and domestic violence and local disaster victims. Each Christmas satchels are distributed to the seafarers, which include: a sweatshirt, socks, a t-shirt, a knitted cap, nuts or chocolate, and a holiday card. WELCA is asking for donations to put together 10 satchels. All donations can be placed in the basket in the first floor hallway at United until Sun., Oct. 27th. More information about Seafarers International House can be found in their newsletter, which is next to the collection basket.

HAM & BEAN SOUPadvance orders are now being taken. Quarts are $5.00 each. Please contact Wendy Seyler, Kay Land, or call the office with your order. Pick-up your soup on Election Day, Tues., Nov. 5thfrom 11-2 PM in Fellowship Hall. All proceeds benefit Helping Hands.

+A COLLECTIONwill be taken on the first Sunday of each month to benefit St. Paul’s Food Pantry.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:Altar Guild is looking for volunteers to assist in setting up and removing altar and communion items each week. Please contact Jean McKeague for more information.

COUNCIL OPENINGS:Two volunteers are needed to fill the Church Council. Positions currently occupied by Lynda Carey and Jean McKeague, whose terms are ending in December 2019. Please prayerfully consider accepting election to this vital position. Council meets 9-10 times per year on the third Tuesday at 6:30 PM. Our church needs your support and input if we are to carry out our goal of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.

+HAM & BEAN SOUP SALE:Ham & Bean soup sale will be held on Election Day, Tues., Nov. 5th. Donations of CannedGreat Northern beans are needed and can be dropped off in the 1stfloor hallway of United until Sun., Nov. 3rd. Monetary donations for ham can be given to Kay Land or Wendy Seyler.

CHRIST IN OUR HOMEDaily Devotionals for October, November and December are now available on the tables in the Narthex.

YOUTH BIBLE STUDYwill hold a Halloween party on Sun., Oct. 20thfrom 3:30-5:30 PM in Fellowship Hall. Come celebrate Halloween with food, fun, and fellowship! Don’t forget to dress up!

+COAT DRIVEGive-a-way will be held in United’s Fellowship Hall on Nov. 1st& 2nd. Donations are being accepted for coats, clothes & shoes in good condition until Thurs., Oct. 31st. We are asking that all donations be dropped off closer to the date of the give-away due to lack of storage space prior to the event. All items donated will be given away free of charge.

+OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD demonstrates God’s love to hurting children in a tangible way by partnering with churches worldwide to deliver gift-filled shoeboxes and the Good News of Jesus Christ. Remember to choose a gender and age group of the child you are purchasing items for. All shoeboxes can be dropped off on the tables in the 1stfloor hallway of United until Sun. Nov. 10th. Brochures and bookmarks are available. Please note:Toothpaste & candy are no longer allowed in the shoeboxes due to customs regulations. Boxes are available on the tables in the 1stfloor hallway for your donations. Don’t forget to attach a gender/age label on the top of your box. WELCA has generously agreed to pay for all shipping costs.
